Seven things you need to move from “To Do” to “Done”.
Busy homeowners should never be too busy to take good care of their homes. It’s your biggest investment and tells your neighbors everything they need to know about how you take care of important things.
Winter is the hardest! Whenever winter is on the doorstep, it brings forward a long list of “to-do’s” that you should tackle before the temperatures dip.
Here are some things to do before you hibernate like a bear! Your home will thank you for it.
Raking Leaves: Don’t leave them for spring. They look bad, and they’ll be a heavy, wet mess. More importantly, they’ll suffocate your grass and generate lawn pests. If you need help, call a lawn maintenance expert.
Clean your gutters: Frozen leaf-filled gutters are a problem you’d rather not have. But be careful! Better yet, hire someone to help.
Fertilizing: Yes, winter fertilizer will help prepare your yard for a beautiful awakening in the Spring. It’s not a waste of time or money.
Pruning and Trimming: This is a little tougher to do on your own, but it is important. Most people don’t know when to trim. Do it now before it freezes, and allow for growth next year when it wants to come. Seek expert advice if you need it to make sure you do it right, as every tree or shrub is just a little different, and can benefit from an expert's touch.
Mulching: Most of us think of mulch in the spring to make our landscapes look nice. But a layer of mulch around the base of trees and shrubs will insulate the roots from the cold.
Look for weak branches: Ice storms and heavy snow can cause unsafe conditions if branches can break under the weight. Trim them back and have someone haul them away.
Plan for Snow Removal: You know it’s coming, you just don’t know when. What will you do when the snow comes? How will you remove it, how will you get out of your driveway, and how can you keep access to your home (stairs, ramps, doorways, etc.) clear? If you can’t do it yourself, or just don’t want to, hire someone now to be there when you need it done. Don’t wait, because when you need it, it’ll be too late.
If you are too busy, then you have to hire someone to help, because this work needs to be done, and it needs to be done before winter sets in deep.
